Our Story

For decades, Curaçao’s economy revolved around oil refining. When the refinery closed, tourism surged, bringing opportunity but also the risk of careless development. Too often, projects were built quickly, with profit first and little respect for land or culture.

Wabi-Kanso was created as a different path, to prove that small-scale development can be soulful, sustainable, and rooted in Curaçao’s identity.

Our Philosophy

The name Wabi-Kanso reflects two timeless Japanese principles:

Wabi — Beauty in simplicity and nature.

Kanso — Clarity, honesty, and function without excess.

Together, they guide every decision we make, from the clean lines of our architecture to how we speak. We favor honesty. And we design spaces meant to breathe with the land, not dominate it.

This is not just a build — it’s a movement

Our first project, Ka-Dushi Retreat, is proof of our commitment: three homes already under construction in Banda Bou, designed for seamless indoor–outdoor living. But Wabi-Kanso is bigger than any single project.

We are a movement to ensure that as Curaçao grows, it grows wisely, protecting its landscapes, honoring its culture, and creating opportunities for locals and investors alike.

Though Wabi-Kanso is new in name, it stands on decades of construction experience. Joalten’s father’s projects still stand across Curaçao, quiet proof that quality and speed can go hand in hand. That legacy runs through every wall we build today.

We’re not building gated compounds or copy-paste resorts. We’re building homes that breathe with the land, for families who want to belong, and for travelers who want to feel authenticity.
